Ryker shares Tom Hanks’ birthday so it was only fitting to add Woody into his newborn session with Toy Story 4 coming out this year! I like to keep my newborn sessions simple for the most part – to keep the focus more on the baby – so adding just the Toy Story Woody and Buzz Lightyear dolls to a few shots worked out great!

I often get asked by parents, “What if my baby decides not to sleep well during their newborn session?” I assure parents that no matter what happens, I will get beautiful shots of their sweet baby – case in point with Ryker’s session. He was extra sensitive to touch and loved to stay wrapped. I tried multiple times to get less wrapped shots of Ryker, but my sessions are very baby-led (meaning I go off the baby’s temperament and do not push them to do shots that just aren’t working for them) so sometimes I do not get to do all the set-ups and poses I initially intended on doing. I was able to get Ryker’s arms and legs out for some shots, but for the most part he was wrapped or partially wrapped during his session.

Right after I took a few of these shots below – he’d wake up seconds after so I had to be on my toes this day. Babies can pick up on stress so I did my part by staying calm and just went with the flow – and I absolutely love the outcome of his gallery! He was such a happy, content baby while wrapped and you can tell in so many shots how he loved being “snug as a bug.” By the end when I could tell he was done with sleepy shots, I was able to capture adorable awake shots.

I am a former elementary teacher of 8 years (quit right before my first son was born) so I am used to being extra prepared – and it is no different for a newborn session. I always have backup plans if baby doesn’t like a certain pose or if he/she needs to be wrapped more. One of the best compliments a client can say during their session to me is how prepared and organized I am during their session. Despite your baby’s temperament, I will always get beautiful pictures during your newborn session that you will treasure forever!
